Just weeks after healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and its subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals reached a confidential settlement with a Risperdal plaintiff, the companies are going to trial in the sixth Risperdal case to go to court in Pennsylvania.

The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation granted a coordinated docket for more than 100 lawsuits alleging the diabetes drug Invokana caused significant injuries. Cases are currently being transferred and coordinated in a multidistrict litigation in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

C.R. Bard faces hundreds of lawsuits regarding its Inferior Vena Cava Filters (IVC filters), the first of which is scheduled to go to trial next fall. However, while the company prepares for the trial, plaintiffs around the country are filing an increasing number of Bard IVC filter lawsuits.

In June 2015, Cook Medical only faced around 100 IVC filter lawsuits; but over the course of the next year, the number of lawsuits skyrocketed. As the year comes to a close, the company now faces more than 1,000 defective IVC filter lawsuits. The new year will see at least one of these lawsuits go to trial in the fall, and Cook Medical is likely trying to prepare for this pivotal trial.

Researchers recently analyzed data from twelve separate clinical studies to determine the effect of popular heartburn medications like Nexium and Prilosec have on the development of stomach cancer.

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has desperately tried to transfer state court baby powder lawsuits into the federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) in New Jersey where the company believes the court may be more favorable, but this hasn’t stopped new lawsuits from being filed in state courts around the country. One of the largest baby powder litigations in state court is in California where cases are being coordinated in a Los Angeles court. Other states are following suit, including Delaware where ten baby powder lawsuits are currently pending against J&J.

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has suffered several huge multimillion-dollar trial losses this year, but the worst was yet to come. The third Pinnacle hip implant trial finished closing statements earlier this week and the jury quickly returned a verdict. J&J and its subsidiary DePuy Orthopedics were found guilty of gross negligence and the jury awarded the six plaintiffs $1.04 billion in damages.
